In Memoriam: Butch McCarter, Kingsbury Class of 1959

BUTCH McCARTER, 66 of Bartlett passed away March 25, 2007. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 28 at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel. Burial will be in Memory Hill Gardens. Butch was a 1959 graduate of Kingsbury High School where he held the title of "Mr. KHS"; he was an outside sales associate with United Rentals; a former deacon for Raleigh Baptist Church, now Bartlett Hills Baptist Church; and a member of the Raleigh Masonic Lodge. Butch was known for his joy for life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Butch is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Lynda (Patey) McCarter (KHS'61); daughter, Michelle (Mark) Henry of Atoka; son, Mitch (Vickey) McCarter of Oakland; brother, Mickey McCarter; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Steve Hagen; mother and father-in-law, Paul and Wilma Patey; two granddaughters, Savannah McCarter and Ashlyn Henry, he was known as Pops to them; and many, many friends. Memorials may be made in Butch's name to The Tennessee Baptist Children's Home.

LINDA ANN KING, 63, of Collierville, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died February 13, 2007. She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Buck King; her two sons, Brad King and Mike King of Memphis; her sister, Millie Goforth of Brighton; and her precious grandchildren, Miranda, Llandon and Michael King. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 16, and services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, February 17, both at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park-Southwoods. First KHS Alumni Meeting of 2007

The 1st meeting of KHS Alumni Association for 2007 will be THURSDAY, FEB. 15, 2007 AT 6:30 PM at the home of Carol and Butch Sfakianos, 6589 Country Bluff Drive, Bartlett, TN 38134 (901) 377-6050 . Altruria off Memphis-Arlington to the right towards Quail Ridge golf course. The first street is Country Bluff Drive, take a right. Dinner menu... Butch's famous home made vegetable soup and cornbread... please bring complimentary items and / or drinks. PLEASE RSVP to make sure we have enough beans in the soup?????? Please bring any class lists / mailing lists for us to update. I will bring what I have for each class to help you upgrade your lists. I also have Outlook address files that you can import directly into your computer address book of your class. If you want those, please let me know. They are as current as I can make them. They also show which email addresses are no longer working; and those we need to contact / update. June 22, 2007 tournament We need a list of volunteers and workers....The bulk of our workers are going to be having their REUNION; don't know if they want to pull double duty... we need to respect them for their time of fun.

In Memoriam: James "Jimmy" Morgan, Kingsbury Class of 1970

JAMES RONALD MORGAN, 54, of Texarkana, passed away on January 27, 2007, at his home. Mr. Morgan was born May 22, 1952, in Oxford, MS. He was a graduate of (Kingsbury class of 1970) and TheUniversity of Memphis and a member of the Pi Kappa Phi. He was preceded in death by his father, James R. Morgan. Mr. Morgan is survived by his mother, Joy Chandler Morgan of Texarkana, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Robert Allen and Jacqueline Morgan of Tuscaloosa, AL; sister and brother-in-law, Mimi (Morgan) and Joe McMichael; a niece, Elizabeth Joy McMichael; and a nephew, James McMichael all of Texarkana, TX. Memorial services were January 29 at Sugarhill United Methodist Church in Texarkana , TX with graveside services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan uary 30 at Memphis Memory Gardens . Memorials may be sent to Sugarhill United Methodist Church in Texarkana, Texas.

Commercial Appeal Reprints 1982 Article About Kingsbury Coach Bill Todd

A newspaper article about former Kingsbury Coach Bill Todd, originally published on January 24, 1982, was reprinted twenty five years later in the 'Memphis Memories' section of the Commercial Appeal on January 24, 2007 ...

"Kingsbury coach Bill Todd watches anxiously from the sidelines as his team's 11-point lead dwindles late in the game against Frayser on Jan. 25, 1963. Behind Mike Butler's 25 points, the Falcons held on for a 64-60 victory, their 13th straight. Todd would later become athletic director of Memphis city schools from 1970-1989, then served two terms on the city school board. He also did color commentary for Memphis State football and basketball games. Todd, who had a heart transplant in 1991, died in 2004, but not before helping raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight heart disease."

In Memoriam: Kathy Copeland, Kingsbury Class of 1969

KATHY JANE COPELAND, 55, of Rogers, Arkansas died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville. She was born on July 10, 1951 to Clifton H. Copeland and Jewel Smith Copeland in Memphis, TN. She was a 1969 graduate of Kingsbury High School in Memphis ; she was a board member of the American Diabetes Association and loved spending time with her miniature schnauzers, Jazz and Sam. She was preceded in death by her father, Clifton H. Copeland. She is survived by one son, Chris Purdy of the home; one brother, Mike Copeland (class of 1972) and his wife, Colleen of Stauton, VA and one sister, Ann Lowe of Memphis, TN. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, January 23 at Rollins Funeral Home Chapel in Rogers, Arkansas at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org or by mail at American Diabetes Association, PO Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038-1131 .

DEBORAH LEE (BRANCH) BAGWELL, 55, Interior Designer at Bartlett Home Furnishings, of Bartlett, passed away Friday, January 5, 2007. Born March 3, 1951 in Memphis. Debbie met the love of her life in 7th grade and later married, George Wayne Bagwell Jr. December 30, 1971. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, January 8 in Bartlett Ellendale Cemetery. She leaves her mother, Ouida Branch; husband, Wayne Bagwell; daughter, Elizabeth Luster; son, Brandon Bagwell; grandchildren, Alexus, Luke and Nick; sister-in-law, Beverly Bagwell; Other Families including the Koester's of Memphis, the Bailey's of Broken Bow, OK, and a wealth of family and friends that will miss her dearly.

In Memoriam: Harry "Tinker" Rhoads, Kingsbury Class of 1971

HARRY "Tinker" RHOADS, 54, resident of the Oakland Community, former resident of Memphis and employee of Memphis Light, Gas and Water for 33 years before his retirement, died at his residence on Wednesday, November 22, 2006. Services will be at 2p.m. Saturday at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with interment in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy. 64. Visitation will be from 6-8p.m. Friday at the Peebles West Chapel. He was passionate about golf and boating with family and friends on the Tennessee River at Pickwick. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Williams Rhoads. Tinker is survived by his wife, Karen; two daughters, Rachel (Brandon) Trentham and Sarah (Wesley) Michaels; two stepdaughters, Lauren (Daniel) Reighley and Leslie (Chris) Holden; his father, Harry Rhoads; his sister, Nancy Rhoads; his brother, Bobby (Vonnie) Rhoads and numerous relatives and friends. Our thanks to the doctors and staff at the West Clinics in Memphis and Corinth, the Methodist Hospitals and Methodist Hospice. We also want to thank all our family and friends for their support and prayers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
